Major European Oil and Gas Companies

Six of the biggest European oil companies have taken an historic stance on climate change, encouraging governments to adopt a carbon pricing approach to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and inviting them to engage in an immediate policy dialogue to do so.

On Friday, May 29, 2015, Shell, BP Plc, Eni SpA, Statoil ASA, Total and BG Group Plc wrote Christiana Figueres, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), requesting that a price be placed on carbon and stated that they each “stand ready to play their part.”
